potent potential to cause that button to be pressed
blowing humanity to smithereens wreck families
in their wake ground zero planes smash skyscrapers
devastation pain horrific astronomical linking
inciting hatred bloodshed death a good cause severed
limbs shoot through the air crimson speckles spattered
splattered unsigned unclaimed seeping into the rain soil
skeletal fingers connecting infinity space
time does not erase the hurt loss the mother mourning
her young the fatherless child the badge of honour awarded
posthumously for courage service to country taunts mocks
‘I exist you are no more but I cannot hold your beloved’s hand
wipe away the tears on your wrinkled mother’s pained face
nor kiss better your son’s knees’

About cho wan yau

Teacher by day poet/writer by night. Words have been my first love and will be my last. As a child I locked myself into the toilet devouring books which transported me to distant lands. Poetry shared penned from 2009-2010 in a titanic struggle to stay sane at Heartbreak Hotel. Please check it out on chowanyau@wordpress.com. Any comments or feedback welcome. Why not share your story with me, because we all have one, don't we?
