youngster’s game

this love lark is a youngster’s
game not for decrepit oaps twisted
fingers missing boobs damaged hearts
salt and pepper head of hair ladies who
won’t grow old gracefully
like spotty teenagers in love for the first time
getting all excited carried away thinking they are
infallible omnipotent Duracell extra can keep going
they flop on the couch super glued limp as rag dolls
awaiting their second wind
you see these wrinklies can’t quite believe their luck a
second bite of the cherry they were resigned to growing old
alone getting more grumpy set in their ways who was gonna
put up with them love them with their health conditions body falling
apart soon the mind will go too who will hold their hand

About cho wan yau

Teacher by day poet/writer by night. Words have been my first love and will be my last. As a child I locked myself into the toilet devouring books which transported me to distant lands. Poetry shared penned from 2009-2010 in a titanic struggle to stay sane at Heartbreak Hotel. Please check it out on chowanyau@wordpress.com. Any comments or feedback welcome. Why not share your story with me, because we all have one, don't we?
