The English Professor at Large

This morning I was sitting with a cat sleeping in my lap, when, suddenly,for no apparent reason, I started singing my own song: “I can dance, I can sing, I can do most anything “cause I’m in love.”In love with whom, with what?

I’m in love with my world, an agape that underlies the gamuts of life. Everything, from the rock that sleeps to the plant that is aware, to the animal that feels and senses and thinks, to the mammal that walks upright and reasons and creates, all things “both great and small,” I love. All water deities, all earth and fire deities, all weather deities, I love.

The sounds, the aromas, the speech of life that infiltrates and seduces in heard and unheard melodies echoing from every life form to cocoon and feed us, to excite, to solace, to renew, to cry in joy and sorrow, to create, to…
